Water Quality: They will require a water  temperature of  22° - 26°C with a pH of 6 - 6.5.

Compatability: Ruby barbs are schooling fish that should always be kept in groups of eight or more. They are less nippy than the tiger barb and are suitable for community aquariums with other peaceful fish. Tetras, other barbs, danios, catfish, and gouramis can generally be safely kept with Ruby barbs.

Diet: As a Omnivorus species a mixed diet including meat based and vegitable matter for optimal nutrition. You can get food with such ingredients such as flake, small pellet, wafer mix and frozen or live foods.

The black ruby barb or purplehead barb is a tropical cyprinid fish endemic to Sri Lanka, where it occurs in forested streams from the Kelani basin to the Nilwala basin. They are found in streams on hills around 1000 ft in elevation.
